It is the administrative boundary between terrestrial land (dry land) and the Coastal Marine Area (foreshore and seabed). The line of mean high water springs is the average of the high tides that happen just after every new moon and every full moon. The Coastal Marine Area is all the land and water on the seaward side of the line of mean high water springs and out to a distance of 12 nautical miles, (22.2 kilometers).</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 7 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>The Cross-River CMA boundary line is divided into two types; CMA and Cross River. The Cross River is the administrative boundary for the CMA on rivers and streams as agreed by the Department of Conservation, the relevant district council and Northland Regional Council (2016). The Coastal Marine Area generally extends up rivers for a distance of one kilometer or five times the width of the river, whichever is less.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 7 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>The appropriate scale of use is 1:25,000</SPAN></SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
