Description: This dataset is part of the Proposed Regional Plan. It has no legal effect. This dataset comprises polygon areas of the District Council managed drainage districts. Each drainage district/scheme tends to have a separate rating district established to maintain a network of scheduled assets, such as drains and associated stopbanks, culverts and floodgates. These schemes provide protection benefits to a defined community and are funded through targeted rates. There are 28 districts in Kaipara, 4 in the Far North, and one in Whangarei (Hikurangi). NB: FNDC advises that the drainage district polygons for the Far North should be used with care as there is no official documentation regarding how they were derived. The role of the Regional Council is to consent the schemes (under the RMA) and to consent the physical assets within the schemes. The appropriate scale of use is 1:25,000
