Activities include structures (e.g. moorings and jetties), occupation of space in association with structures, reclamations, dredging, extraction and depositing/disposal of material and commercial use of CMA (e.g. ports and wharves). The Regional Coastal Plan sets out the way the coastal marine area of Northland is managed by dividing it up into various zones or marine management areas (which are managed for different purposes) as well as site specific overlays and includes rules within the respective zones/overlays to manage the potential adverse effects of activities. The zones are as follows: - General coastal marine zone - Mooring zone - Marine zone - Coastal commercial zone (combination of existing - Port and Wharf zones) - Whangarei City Centre Marine Zone.
